Acceptable Use Policy
1. Purpose and scope
1.1 This Acceptable Use Policy (“AUP”) applies to use of Talk4 mobile, data, broadband, connectivity, telephony and related internet services. It forms part of the Contract where incorporated.
1.2 The purpose is to protect customers, networks, suppliers and the public from unlawful, abusive, insecure or disruptive use while preserving ordinary legitimate use.
2. Lawful use
2.1 You must not use or knowingly allow the Services to be used for criminal, fraudulent or otherwise unlawful activity, or to assist another person to do so.
2.2 You must comply with applicable law, regulatory requirements and lawful court/authority orders.
3. Security and network integrity
3.1 You must take reasonable steps to secure devices, routers, accounts, passwords, APIs, SIP credentials and systems connected to the Service.
3.2 You must not knowingly generate traffic or operate systems that materially threaten network integrity, interfere with another user’s service or circumvent legitimate security controls.
4. Spam and messaging abuse
4.1 You must not send bulk unsolicited electronic communications in breach of law, operate open relays/proxies for abuse, spoof sender identity for fraud, or continue sending messages to recipients who have lawfully opted out.
4.2 Business marketing activity must comply with applicable direct-marketing and privacy rules.
5. Malware, attacks and unauthorised access
- Do not distribute malware, ransomware, botnet code or malicious payloads.
- Do not conduct denial-of-service attacks or coordinate abusive traffic.
- Do not probe, scan or access systems without lawful authority.
- Do not attempt to defeat authentication, access controls, rate limits or security measures for an unlawful/abusive purpose.
- If your device becomes compromised, cooperate with reasonable steps to contain the threat.
6. Intellectual property and unlawful content
6.1 Do not knowingly use the Service to infringe copyright, trade marks or other intellectual-property rights or to distribute content whose possession/distribution is unlawful.
6.2 Talk4 does not generally monitor customer content merely to enforce this AUP, but may act on valid notices, abuse reports, network telemetry or legal obligations.
7. Data, tethering, servers and machine-to-machine use
7.1 Tethering/hotspot use is permitted where the selected tariff allows it. Any product-specific restriction must be disclosed before purchase.
7.2 Use in routers, IoT/M2M devices, CCTV systems, servers, gateways or other persistent/automated applications is permitted only where compatible with the tariff and any disclosed product-specific terms.
7.3 You must not use a consumer tariff for wholesale resale, unauthorised permanent redistribution or another use expressly excluded from that tariff.
8. Unlimited services and fair use
8.1 If a Talk4 product is marketed as “unlimited”, Talk4 will not impose an undisclosed ordinary domestic monthly volume cap that contradicts that representation.
8.2 Any objective fair-use threshold, roaming limit, tethering restriction, traffic-management practice or prohibited specialised use must be transparently disclosed for the relevant tariff.
8.3 Talk4 will not rely on vague assertions of “excessive use” to impose hidden caps on an unlimited product. Action will be based on disclosed rules, network/security necessity or demonstrable misuse.
9. Traffic management
9.1 Talk4 or an underlying network may use reasonable, proportionate and transparent traffic-management measures where permitted by law, including to preserve security/integrity, manage exceptional congestion, comply with law or mitigate attacks/fraud.
9.2 Traffic management will not be used to circumvent product commitments or unlawfully discriminate between lawful content/services.
10. Resale and sharing
10.1 You may share a Personal service within your household or a Business service with authorised users in the ordinary way, subject to the tariff. Commercial resale/wholesale onward supply requires Talk4’s written agreement unless expressly included in the product.
11. Investigations and enforcement
11.1 Where Talk4 reasonably believes this AUP has been breached, it may investigate and take proportionate steps including warning, requesting remediation, rate-limiting specific abusive traffic where lawful, blocking destinations/ports necessary for security, suspending affected services or terminating for serious/repeated breach.
11.2 Except where urgent action is required for security, fraud, law enforcement or network protection, Talk4 will normally give notice and an opportunity to remedy a remediable breach.
11.3 Enforcement is subject to applicable consumer/business protections and does not remove complaint/ADR rights.
12. Reporting abuse
12.1 Report suspected abuse/security issues to support@talk-4.co.uk (or the dedicated abuse/security address published on www.talk4.co.uk) and include sufficient technical information for investigation.
13. Changes to this Policy
13.1 Talk4 may update this AUP for future contracts and may apply changes to existing contracts only in accordance with applicable contractual, consumer and Ofcom notice/termination rules.
